Marangoni Range Rover Evoque HFI-R

Marangoni Range Rover Evoque HFI-R
In keeping with its tradition of showing up at the Bologna Motor Show with an impressive concept, Italian tire manufacturer Marangoni chose this year's edition of the venue to reveal the Range Rover Evoque HFI-R.

The first thing that catches your eye as you look at the pictures is the experimental ruby red coloured Marangoni tires – well, for many it will actually be the curvalicious brunette model but that's irrelevant to this story. Marangoni says that the bespoke “M-Power EvoRed” tires are made from special compounds with high silica content that helps rolling resistance and consequently fuel consumption. The 255/30R20 tires are wrapped around a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels from O.Z. Racing. In addition, the bodywork of the car has been completely repainted in a special satin paint called Titanium Fluid Metal while the roof, the pillars, the door handles and the grille are finished in gloss black.

Other changes on the outside include the redesigned front and rear bumpers, and a carbon fibre aero kit comprising of a front apron, side skirts, wheel arch extensions and a rear diffuser. The same material is also used on the air intakes, the boot handle, all the bottom door guards and the mirror covers that feature small Italian flags.

The Evoque's interior was also revamped with high-quality materials such as leather, Alcantara and carbon with the seats and door panels now featuring a diamond pattern with double red stitching.

Complementing the styling changes is a raft of mechanical upgrades the most important of which concerns the Si4 2.0-liter Turbocharged petrol engine that has been tuned and modified to run on either gasoline, natural gas or alternatively a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas from a separate tank. It delivers an output of 300-horsepower with the two tanks offering a combined cruising range of 1,000 kilometres or 620 miles.

Marangoni says that when using a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas, the system can completely eliminate fine particle emissions and reduce CO2 emissions by the same percentage (up to 30 percent) as the hydrogen contained in the mix.

Other performance mods include a Tarox B360 brake kit with 10-piston calipers and composite disks, with 330x26 diameter brake rotors.

If you are a gaming, racecar or even a frequent visitor of Carscoop, then you already know about Nismo. For the rest, it’s an abbreviation of Nissan Motorsports, the Japanese carmaker’s in-house performance division established in 1984.

Yet its activities have been restricted mainly in motorsports, where it has been involved with great success in events like the FIA GT1 World Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and of course, numerous racing series in Japan .

Its road car presence has been limited to tuning parts and a very small number of special edition models such as the 370Z NISMO (Fairlady Z in Japan). But this will soon change as Nissan announced today the initiation of a major expansion program for its performance arm which will use its race and tuning expertise to spice up the company’s road cars.

"Nismo has carved out an enviable reputation in motor racing", said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan President and CEO. “In fact, in 2011, Nismo cars and engines won in every category they competed in - the first time we have achieved this milestone."

"The time is now right to let ordinary drivers experience what our racing drivers enjoy every time they head out onto the track. We aim to bring Nismo's passion and focus on driving excitement to mainstream models, and the Juke Nismo Concept shows what we can do”, he added.

Ghosn’s intention to compete with other carmakers’ performance divisions, like BMW’s M and Mercedes-Benz’ AMG, is more than evident in the building of an all-new global Nismo headquarters in Tsurumi, Yokohama, in the beginning of 2013.

Looks like the Juke Nismo Concept is just the warning shot in the war Ghosn is planning to wage against rivals in the performance segment.

Honda CR-Z iCF

Honda CR-Z iCF
Honda CR-Z iCF
As we rightfully suspected when Honda revealed the Mugen CR-Z RR Study at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011 earlier in the summer, the Japanese carmaker confirmed a production version of its hotted-up hybrid sport hatch that will go on sale in Britain next spring.

And for those of you wondering, unfortunately, Honda has no plans to offer the car in other markets – at least for the time being.

The production model is named CR-Z iCF and it has

been developed in partnership with Mugen's European arm. At the heart of the car lies a modified version of the CR-Z's 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain that gains a supercharger, a new induction system and a reprogrammed ECU.

As a result of these upgrades, the CR-Z iCF has almost 50 per cent more power than the standard car at 175PS (equal to 173HP and 177bhp) and can sprint from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in just 6.1 seconds or 3 seconds quicker than the regular 124PS CR-Z.

In addition to the power boost, Mugen will also retune the chassis and modify the appearance of the CR-Z inside and out.

Martin Moll, Head of Honda UK's marketing division commented: "MUGEN Euro magic has created a super responsive yet eco-conscious model building on our sporting credentials and giving us the ability to compete in the "hot hatch" marketplace as we move into 2012."

Honda said that it is still working on the pricing but it expects the CR-Z iCF to start from around £24,000 (approx. US$37,300 or €27,990). More details are to be released closer to the launch date.

Lavazza GTX-R

Lavazza GTX-RLavazza GTX-R2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars
Simbol Design's Lavazza GTX-R body made of carbon-Kevlar built atop a tubular steel frame. And since German powerplants have emerged as the new crate engine of choice for niche manufacturers from Spyker and Wiesmann to Gumpert and Pagani, the Lavazza packs a BMW-sourced 5.4-liter V12, picking up Lamborghini's tractor-origins mantle with an electro-pneumatic transmission reportedly sourced from a bus. Sources differ on the engine's output – alternately claiming 489 horsepower or 620 – but either way, 0-60 mph times quoted around the four-and-a-half second sound conservative.

Lavazza GTX-RThe 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions and will be built in carbon kevlar. This will help the car get its weight down to about 2381 lbs. On the exterior, the 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R will get fixed front diverters and rear venturi intakes with adjustable side diverters, an adjustable rear wing, and a roof scoop.

Lavazza GTX-R
Lavazza GTX-RThe front of the car may look a little like a Pagani Zonda (or a Zonda on drugs), but the price tag shouldn’t as this car is definitely not fitting into the ranks of the Italian supercars of today. Both coupe and roadster bodystyles are apparently in the works, though there's no word on availability or pricing just yet, but are exclusive to models such as this, you can not expect that the cheap.

Maserati Chicane

Maserati ChicaneGeneva has been good to Maserati. Last year the company unveiled the GranTurismo to thunderous applause, and followed up this year with the more powerful GranTurismo S. Meanwhile, the students of the Instituto Europeo di Design unveiled their Maserati Chicane concept, which won out over rival designs to win sponsorship and a spot under the bright lights of the Geneva Motor Show to show their talent to the world.

We caught up with the IED graduate design students and found our cameras snapping away at the striking concept. Although certain details aren't likely to find their way onto a production Trident, with the design chiefs from Maserati and Fiat AG on the selecting jury, we wouldn't be all that surprised to see some similarities when Maserati eventually unleashes its anticipated new sportscar.

Audi r8 v12

Audi r8 v12Here are the first shots of the Audi R8 with all of that oilburning V12 TDi goodness you’ve been waiting for. Confirming the well supported rumors that we heard, the Audi R8 V12 TDI is all the power with slightly less of the petroleum depletion. As we thought, the V12 displaces six liters and produces 500 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque while still achieving a mileage of nearly 23 MPG (US/Highway). Below is the press release, which required us to listen to Bryan Adams to get to you.

Audi r8 v12Audi’s having a spot of trouble keeping a lid on things ahead of the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. First the TT-S photos were leaked to Spanish website Motorpasion, and today we see video of the R8 V12 TDI concept has been posted on a Russian site.

Audi r8 v12
Audi r8 v12
Audi r8 v12
Audi r8 v12The Detroit-bound car is said to make 500 horsepower and 737 lb-ft (1000 Nm) of torque while boasting fuel economy of over 23 US mpg (10 liters per 100 km). Zero-to-sixty reportedly takes 4.2 seconds and the car should have a top end of 300 km/h, or around 186 mph. Want one? According to Auto Tuning News, a production version is likely in mid-2009. Save those pennies, kids. Detroit’s just days away, and we’ll get the full story on the TDI R8 as soon as Audi releases the goods. In the meantime, check out the video (it’s all studio stuff with the car static against a plain backdrop) after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Oldenburger!
