And since German powerplants have emerged as the new crate engine of choice for niche manufacturers from Spyker and Wiesmann to Gumpert and Pagani, the Lavazza packs a BMW-sourced 5.4-liter V12, picking up Lamborghini's tractor-origins mantle with an electro-pneumatic transmission reportedly sourced from a bus. Sources differ on the engine's output – alternately claiming 489 horsepower or 620 – but either way, 0-60 mph times quoted around the four-and-a-half second sound conservative.

The 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions and will be built in carbon kevlar. This will help the car get its weight down to about 2381 lbs. On the exterior, the 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R will get fixed front diverters and rear venturi intakes with adjustable side diverters, an adjustable rear wing, and a roof scoop.

The front of the car may look a little like a Pagani Zonda (or a Zonda on drugs), but the price tag shouldn’t as this car is definitely not fitting into the ranks of the Italian supercars of today. Both coupe and roadster bodystyles are apparently in the works, though there's no word on availability or pricing just yet, but are exclusive to models such as this, you can not expect that the cheap.

Maserati Chicane

Geneva has been good to Maserati. Last year the company unveiled the GranTurismo to thunderous applause, and followed up this year with the more powerful GranTurismo S. Meanwhile, the students of the Instituto Europeo di Design unveiled their Maserati Chicane concept, which won out over rival designs to win sponsorship and a spot under the bright lights of the Geneva Motor Show to show their talent to the world.

We caught up with the IED graduate design students and found our cameras snapping away at the striking concept. Although certain details aren't likely to find their way onto a production Trident, with the design chiefs from Maserati and Fiat AG on the selecting jury, we wouldn't be all that surprised to see some similarities when Maserati eventually unleashes its anticipated new sportscar.

Audi r8 v12

Here are the first shots of the Audi R8 with all of that oilburning V12 TDi goodness you’ve been waiting for. Confirming the well supported rumors that we heard, the Audi R8 V12 TDI is all the power with slightly less of the petroleum depletion. As we thought, the V12 displaces six liters and produces 500 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque while still achieving a mileage of nearly 23 MPG (US/Highway). Audi’s having a spot of trouble keeping a lid on things ahead of the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. First the TT-S photos were leaked to Spanish website Motorpasion, and today we see video of the R8 V12 TDI concept has been posted on a Russian site.

The Detroit-bound car is said to make 500 horsepower and 737 lb-ft (1000 Nm) of torque while boasting fuel economy of over 23 US mpg (10 liters per 100 km). Zero-to-sixty reportedly takes 4.2 seconds and the car should have a top end of 300 km/h, or around 186 mph. Want one? According to Auto Tuning News, a production version is likely in mid-2009. Save those pennies, kids. Detroit’s just days away, and we’ll get the full story on the TDI R8 as soon as Audi releases the goods. Mazda Furai

The Furai has to be one of the best looking Japanese concept cars ever produced. when it was unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show it left onlookers gawping at the simply stunning lines which gave the car a look somewhere between a full on group C racer and a piece of automotive sculpture, and in effect, that’s what it is – moving art.

The car was designed on the Chassis of an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race car chassis and features a twin rotary engine that outputs 450 bhp, and even better than that, it’s fully working and drivable as Mazda showed by taking it for several hot laps of the track, and subsequently even offered automotive journalists test drives in it.

Furai translated means “sound of the wind” and the car is the ultimate expression of Mazda’s Nagare (Japanese for “flow”) design language.

2011 Lexus LFA Sports

The 2011 Lexus LFA isn't the fastest car ever made, nor the most powerful or even the quickest to 60 MPH. It can't even match the ZR1 around the Nürburgring. So why will this Toyota cost nearly $400,000?

Full Disclosure: Lexus wanted us to drive the LFA so badly they flew me to Miami and put me up in a fancy hotel. Also, they fed me cornbread with jalapenos in it. If anyone wants to bribe me, southern food is definitely the way to do it, but I'd really have preferred country ham biscuits and red eye gravy.

You've probably been bewildered by how much attention one car from a previously maligned automaker is getting on this and other enthusiast sites. But the attention we've paid pales in comparison to the attention to technical detail Toyota's displayed in the design and construction of the LFA. The car's gestation has taken nearly a decade not because the program had problems or limited resources, but because Toyota decided to design and build nearly every element of the LFA, its first ever supercar, in-house.

Where most companies Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche included — contract out things like gearboxes and the design and construction of carbon fiber components, Lexus chose to teach itself how to make those things better than anyone else, then build its own tools in order to make them.

Take the carbon fiber, for instance. To make the LFA's, Toyota created one of only two circular looms in the entire world, then used it to simultaneously weave one tube of carbon inside another. They built this system just to make the A-pillars on the car.

This all sounded like little more than corporate grandstanding to us. It's the largest car company on earth patting itself on the back for being able to use the money it got selling the automotive equivalent of beige orthopedic shoes to build some fancy tools.

That attitude lasted all the way to turn 6 at the Homestead Speedway road course. An over enthusiastic application of the sharp throttle had the 552 HP, 4.8-liter V10 spinning rapidly towards its 9,500 RPM redline and the tail sliding out towards the grass. Normally that'd have been an oh-shit-I'm-going-to-break-a-$400K-car moment, especially in an unfamiliar supercar, but in the LFA it barely requires conscious correction as it just blended into rocketing down the following straight at three-figure speeds. In fact, oversteer in the LFA doesn't feel so much like oversteer as it does like the rear tires are sitting on castors and being pushed around by a couple of assistants. There's no body roll, no drama, just complete communication and smooth recovery. The reason for that? The impossibly anal approach Toyota took when building the LFA.

The LFA has an unprecedentedly low center of gravity of 17 3/4" — located directly beneath the steering wheel's rim. So far a conventional attribute executed perfectly, but how that CoG got there is way more complicated. First, the engine is located way back in the engine bay and mounts to a 6-speed rear-mounted transaxle through a carbon torque tube. The oil coolers are in the front fenders, while the radiators are at the rear to aid weight distribution, they're fed by the shoulder scoops. That creates a 48% front, 52% rear distribution for the 3263 Lb curb weight. That accounts for the CoG's position front-to-rear, but not vertically. That was achieved by using a world's first counter gear to raise the relative height of the torque tube, allowing the engine to be mounted incredibly low in the car, accounting for the CoG's height.

Of course, that's still only part of the story. The rigid drivetrain assembly (engine, torque tube, transaxle) is connected to the car by four mounts positioned at the geometric extremes of the unit. With no twist in the assembly due to torque, this arrangement eliminates the effect of power delivery on the chassis, there's no torque reaction.

BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept

Have you seen BMW’s new turbodiesel hybrid electric concept car? It’s called the “Vision EfficientDynamics Concept” and it focuses on cranking out performance from a three-cylinder turbodiesel engine coupled with a pair of electric motors cranking out 265 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

From a developmental standpoint, the vehicle’s aim is to marry the performance of a BMW M Car, the looks of a supercar and the fuel economy and emission management of a small premium car.

In other words, all of the vroom-vroom of a gasoline-powered engine with none of the inefficiency.
How’s it get there? Through “exceedingly good balance of CO2 emission management,” the company says.

The tech behind the effort includes:

All-wheel drive layout with an electric motor on both the front and rear axle.
Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h (roughly comparable to 0-60mph in the U.S.) in 4.8 seconds
Top speed 250 km/h (155 mph), electronically limited
Fuel consumption in the EU test cycle was 3.76 litres/100 km (equal to 75.1mpg)
CO2 emissions 99 grams/kilometer.
If you’re into aerodynamics, the drag coefficient is an F1-friendly 0.22.
Electric power is generated without the slightest increase in fuel consumption through efficient Brake Energy Regeneration. Energy is stored in 98 lithium polymer cells.

The concept car is a 2+2-seater with gullwing doors. Roof and door inserts are made of polycarbonate glass that automatically become darker as a function of incoming light.
As a plug-in hybrid, BMW says the Vision EfficientDynamics concept is able to cover the entire fuel consumption drive cycle under electric power alone.

Still, the vehicle is able to cover a distance of just 31 miles in the electric mode alone.

But even in the case that the Chevy Aveo is the donor car, the ETV will most likely alienate you with its ‘out of this world’ price. We discovered that the Florida-based company has listed a completed ETV on eBay with a ‘Buy it Now’ price of just… $86,000. Cool but not $86k cool.
